How To Combat Your Anxiety

anxiety

There are many things you can do to find relief in the face of an anxiety attack.

As someone who suffers from Generalized Anxiety Disorder, you may become easily overwhelmed by your anxiety. That’s a natural part of having anxiety. However, it’s important to understand that there are many things you can do to find relief in the face of an anxiety attack.

Give Yourself A Splash

According to professional therapists, a splash of cold water could be an easy solution to an anxiety attack. If you feel a panic or anxiety attack coming on, plunge both of your hands into ice water. Also, splash some of the ice cold water on your face. The cold water can immediately take you out of anxious thoughts and allow you to focus on something else to pull yourself out of the attack.

Think Of A Soothing Phrase

Repeating a calming phrase is another great way to combat anxiety. During extreme bouts of stress, you must also remember the physical effects that stress has as well. Repeating a calming phrase like, “I am safe. I am loved,” allows you to reassure yourself that everything is okay. Remember to take deep breaths as you repeat your calming phrase.

Have To Cry? Go For It

If you’re on the brink of tears, mental health professionals say to cry it out. Crying can provide a huge amount of relief when going through an anxiety attack. Of course, there may be a time or place where crying may pose a bit of problem. Find a way to excuse yourself and allow the tears to flow.

Social Media Shut Down

Trying to keep up with social media could be a full-time job in and of itself. Shut your phone off and put it down. With the 24-hour news cycle we live in, constant updates and messages can become increasingly overwhelming. Turn your phone off, find something more productive or calming to focus on, and let yourself breathe.

Face Your Fears

Your anxiety is something that can build over time. If you try to ignore the cause of your anxieties and fears, you’ll never truly get over the real problem. Facing your anxiety head-on will allow you to realize that there is nothing to actually be afraid of.

Seek Professional Help

Seeking professional help is imperative. If you don’t already talk to a therapist, it’s important that you make an appointment as soon as you can. Don’t let your anxiety take over your life. Get your life back by talking to someone today.
