Developmental Disabilities

Intellectual Disabilities Services in Baltimore, Frederick and Prince George's CountyFSF’s Residential Services focus on providing each person with a safe and supportive environment while meeting individual outcomes and goal. FSF’s services act as a stepping stone supporting each person to move toward independent living. FSF works with each person, their families, and friends and advocates in developing a plan that is unique to each person through Person-Centered Planning. FSF operates numerous Residential Programs: Alternative Living Units (ALU); Community Supported Living Arrangements (CSLA) and Individual Support Services (ISS). FSF also provides Respite services.

Community Learning Services

Supports will be directed toward increasing opportunities, choice and skills in the areas of volunteerism, career development, self-improvement and/or health and well being in typical community settings. Schedules will be developed on an individual basis based on the wants and needs of the people as determined through their person-centered planning process.

Employment Customization:

The FSF Employment Discovery and Customization program will provide highly individualized, time-limited (up to three months) supports designed to provide people opportunities to develop:

  • An awareness of job and/or volunteer opportunities in their communities;
  • Assistance in developing and building resumes;
  • Work experience opportunities (such as job try outs, job shadowing, informational interviews, etc.) based on expressed preferences; and
  • Coordination and Referral to DORS prior to the completion of the 3 months.

In addition, people participating in the Employment Discovery and Customization program will receive individualized job development and customization services based on their expressed preferences and their unique skills and attributes in an effort to maximize the likelihood of a lasting employment relationship with a highly compatible job and employer.

Day Habilitation/Vocational/Supported Employment

The Developmental Disabilities program provides direct supports and services, which include Day Habilitation Services, Vocational Services and Supported Employment Services. Staff members work closely with each person to teach skills necessary based on their preferences, with the ultimate goal of obtaining gainful employment in the community. FSF also provides supports to people in obtaining and maintaining volunteer positions within their community. FSF currently partners with Meals on Wheels in Baltimore City and Frederick, and Food for Friends in Prince Georges County.

Employment Discovery and Customization

The FSF Employment Discovery and Customization program will provide highly individualized, time-limited (up to three months) supports designed to provide people opportunities to develop:

  • An awareness of job and/or volunteer opportunities in their communities;
  • Assistance in developing and building resumes;
  • Work experience opportunities (such as job try outs, job shadowing, informational interviews, etc.) based on expressed preferences; and

Supports will be directed toward assisting participants in obtaining desirable competitive employment in integrated work settings. People participating in Employment Discovery and Customization will receive 1:1 support. Employment Discovery and Customization services will be offered on a flexible schedule depending on the specific supports and job the person is interested in and what was determined in their person-centered planning meeting and service funding plan. Public transportation will be utilized when available. As an alternative, staff will provide transportation in agency or personal vehicles.
