Programs
and Services
Family
Service Foundation (FSF) is a non-profit human service agency affiliated
with United Way. For more than 60 years, FSF has been providing
services to individuals and families who need comfort, education,
guidance or support. Today, FSF offers an array of mental health
and social service programs for both deaf and hearing individuals;
we also serve those who have persistent and severe mental illness
and those who have developmental disabilities.
OUTPATIENT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
Quality outpatient mental health services are provided at Maryland
clinics in Landover ,
Frederick, Baltimore, Salisbury
and Laurel. Our clinics
are a base of support and care for those clients who require psychiatric
evaluations, psychotherapy and medication management. The scope
of therapeutic services includes individual counseling, group counseling,
couples/marital therapy, family therapy, child/adolescent services,
dual diagnosis and substance abuse treatment.
Psychiatrists, Social Workers and Counselors comprise a carefully
selected mental health team, which provides services in a confidential,
supportive environment. Therapists, skilled in American Sign Language
provide treatment to those who are deaf, deaf-blind and hard of
hearing.
DEAF AIDS PROJECT
This program provides support to deaf individuals with AIDS and
to their partners and families. The program includes case management,
HIV Testing and resources for living with AIDS. The program also
provides HIV education and also functions to bridge the gap between
human service agencies and deaf clients with AIDS related issues.
Services are offered both on-site at FSF
offices and off-site throughout Maryland. For more information about
the Deaf AIDS Project, visit their web-site at: www.deafvision.net/dap.
COMMUNITY REHABILITATION AND RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS
These programs serve deaf, deaf-blind and hearing individuals
with a persistent and severe mental illness, and individuals
recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital, who require
specialized rehabilitation services to return to an independent and
successful lifestyle. FSF operated two day centers and
fourteen residences in Frederick and Prince George's Counties.
DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES SERVICES
This program provides support, advocacy, case management and housing
for hearing, deaf and deaf-blind adults who have a developmental disability.
The program provides direct services which include family support,
individual support, pre-vocational training, day habilitation,
residential, and supportive housing. The agency operates day
habilitation programs in Baltimore City and Prince George's County,
and residential homes in Frederick County, Prince George's County,
Montgomery County, Howard County, Baltimore City, and Baltimore
County. FSF believes that all people, regardless of their
ability, have the right to live and fully participate in their
community. It is this belief which enables our staff to assist
clients in reaching their potential at home, work, and in the
community.
FSF is dedicated to meeting the mental health and
social service needs of the community. We take pride in our programs;
we take pride in the people we serve. We believe that the support
we offer is important in improving the quality of life for individuals
and families in our communities.
