FSF Friends, Family, Supporters Celebrate
10th Anniversary of Deaf AIDS Project

On April 8, 2000, approximately one hundred people gathered at Martin's Preston Room in Baltimore, Maryland, to celebrate the past, present, and future of the Deaf AIDS Project, which was created ten years ago in response to a dire need for HIV/AIDS education in the deaf community.

The evening brought together members of the deaf community, those dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS, FSF staff and friends, family members, and supporters.

Harry Woosley, Jr., founder of the Deaf AIDS Project, spoke about the inception of the Project and the obstacles faced in getting it off the ground. Larry Gamble, CEO of Family Service Foundation, spoke about the current state of transition of the agency. Jason Barth, Director of the Deaf AIDS Project, talked about the future of the Project. Chris Camp of the State AIDS Administration was awarded the first annual Harry Woosley Jr. Service Award for his commitment to the Deaf AIDS Project. Laurie Shevitz, former director of the Deaf AIDS Project, the Baltimore Leather Association for the Deaf, and Christ United Methodist Church for the Deaf were also recognized for their significant contributions.

The silent auction held at the Anniversary Gala raised about $700 for the Deaf AIDS Project, with guests bidding on items such as a flight over Baltimore in a Cessna Skyhawk, tickets to the Baltimore Symphony, and an American Sign Language course.
